Massage Techniques

Swedish Massage - “Spa Style, Relaxation Focused” Swedish Massage is a popular style of massage used in spas and resorts. Dressed down to their comfort level and fully draped by sheets, clients experience a relaxing experience for both their mind and body. Techniques include gliding effleurages, petrissage, and kneading; aiming to induce a “rest-and-digest” response from the client’s parasympathetic nervous system.

Therapeutic Massage - “Specific Work for Specific Problems'' Therapeutic Massage refers to any modality that aims to relieve pain in a specific area. Two specific Western methods of therapeutic bodywork used to achieve tissue change in areas of chronic pain are cross-fiber friction as well as trigger point therapy. These styles incorporate Aidan’s specific anatomical education with a dialogue regarding the client’s pain to make positive change in the body. These sessions can incorporate deep-tissue massage to be more intense and specific, but all work is done within the comfort level and by their discretion. Cross-fiber friction requires skin contact and swedish style massage is often used to warm-up tissue before trigger point therapy, so like Swedish massage, therapeutic massage sessions have the clients dress down to their comfort level.

Shiatsu - “Acupuncture Without the Needles” Shiatsu is a Japanese, non-invasive bodywork style, performed through light and comfortable clothing. This modality uses soothing, pressing, tapping and stretching techniques to stimulate and harmonize the body’s natural energy, also known as “Qi”. Aidan is trained in both Namikoshi Shiatsu and Shiatsu Anma, including  abdominal massage if the client is interested! Namikoshi Shiatsu is based in Western science and anatomy, while Shiatsu Anma is grounded in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Sports Massage - “For The Weekend Warrior or Competing Athletes”

Similar to Therapeutic Massage, Sports Massage encompasses soft tissues manipulation techniques that can assist in recovery from exercise or injury. Aidan has experience working with NFL Football Players, NCAA Athletes, bodybuilders, marathon runners and more - let’s talk about your specific tension and needs!

Chair Massage: “Mobile, Efficient, Adaptive”

Chair Massage offers a portable option for massage where a full massage table is not viable or when a client may require specific accommodation. Chair Massage is a great choice for sporting, corporate, and healthcare events, among others!

Cupping - “Eastern Style Focused Massage Add-On”

Cupping is an add-on that can be purchased and added to any style of massage. A cup is placed on the skin and is suctioned using a rubber pump. The cup is left on the body for a set amount of time, approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Upon removal of the cup, there is often a dark, bruise-like mark in its place, which can last for up to 10 days. Cupping can be effective for particularly persistent muscle pain and tension. It can also be used in conjunction with Shiatsu techniques. Neighborhood Bodywork uses dry cupping techniques, with no heat application.
